For more than 10 years, US Spanish Teacher Sr. Chubb’s hearty laughter and reverberant footsteps have echoed through the hallways of the third floor of the Upper School at Germantown Academy. Known for his kind character, dry sense of humor and his towering six-foot frame, Sr. Chubb has truly lived by the GA Mission Statement, with a subtle hint of culinary enthusiasm and high-quality entertainment.

This year is Sr. Chubb’s last at Germantown Academy. Reflecting his own interests, diverse talents, and distinctive character, Sr. Chubb has helped lead numerous organizations, notably the Spanish Exchange Program and the Community Service Organization. Beyond clubs and programs, Sr. Chubb has participated in several “Estimation Game” videos, performing as GA’s own “Gordon Ramsay”.

Beyond GA’s role in fostering his professional development, Sr. Chubb’s connection with the school runs far deeper at a close personal level. Having previously resided across Europe, Sr. Chubb credits the school with helping him navigate the complexities of being an immigrant, including the contention of achieving permanent residency.

“GA went out of its way for me to be able to stay here,”  Mr. Chubb said, “I’m very grateful to GA and its community for accepting me and helping me have a good experience in the United States.”

While Sr. Chubb’s distinguished teaching style has intrigued both students and faculty alike, his role also extends beyond the classroom, especially at CSO. Sr. Chubb’s genuine desire to help others realize their full potential, coupled with his involvement in the school’s athletic program as an assistant basketball coach manifested itself in an emotional event in the 2016-2017 school year.

“Coach Fenerty learned that Peter McVeigh had passed away because he was sick in the hospital. So it was a bittersweet feeling and very emotional because he supported basketball a lot, and he was a very nice guy.”

In memory of Mr. McVeigh’s and, later, Coach Fenerty’s passing, Sr. Chubb would play an instrumental role in establishing the first Make-A-Wish basketball tournament, which has been a memorable aspect of GA community-oriented culture since.

Despite his objectively positive impact in GA, Sr. Chubb primarily wants to be remembered for making an impact upon both his colleagues and students.

“I want to be remembered as a good colleague, somebody who brightens up the room,” Mr. Chubb said. “Somebody approachable and cool, that students can rely on and feel comfortable talking to.”

Through multiple mediums, notably his voluntary participation in GA video series of notably Hot Ones and the Estimation Games, Sr. Chubb demonstrates a conscious desire to enlighten the lives of the GA community through his sharp wit and friendly demeanor.

Following his leave from GA, Mr. Chubb endeavors to focus more extensively on his culinary ambitions, aiming to expand his chef career not only across social media, but potentially on national television as well.

“I’m going to promote Tiktok, X, update my LinkedIn profile, and ultimately, try to gain more social media presence,” Mr. Chubb said. “I am going to try to become a chef in the industry, and maybe get into consulting, and I’m applying for TV shows as well.”

Mr. Chubb has made an indelible impression at GA, and his contributions to the numerous programs at GA will set their course for years to come.
