Throughout the beginning of their football season, GA has been led by the strong duo of Xavier Stearn ‘26 and Mick McKee ‘26. The quarterback-receiver partnership has recently set the new record for most passing yards put together in a single game at GA. Their journey together illustrates how their experience playing together, training habits, and how the rest of their teammates push them to succeed can turn collaborative goals into success never seen before.

“When I mess up or do something wrong and get upset at myself, he’s always there to pick me up,” McKee said regarding his time spent playing with Stearn. “I feel like we have good chemistry because I’ve known [Xavier] since I was 11.”

The relationship between the quarterback and receiver duo helps both keep the right mindset, since they’re always there to support each other when plays or games don’t go to plan. Since they’ve known each other for so long, the two feel comfortable enough to criticize each other when one of them isn’t meeting expectations, but off the field they know they have each other’s back.

“I think just everyone buying in and trying to do things the right way really helps us, big shout out to the o-line,” McKee said, talking about the support from his teammates. “If we didn’t have all the time to throw the ball none of this would be possible, and [the offense lineman] deserve the credit for the work they do.”

With the help of their teammates such as the offensive line, McKee and Stearn are afforded the opportunity to make many of the big plays they typically do on the field possible. The appreciation for their teammates represents the overall chemistry the team has, that allows every player a spotlight to succeed, or learn from their mistakes.

“When we start practice, you should watch Xavier and Mick, how serious they take their reps,” GA Head Football Coach Kyle Donahue ‘14, said. “To me, that is the difference between someone who’s gonna do this on the next level and maybe someone who’s just gonna play in high school.”

Donahue also describes the duo’s dynamic as one built on trust and contrasting personalities.

“Mick’s a man of many words, and I would say Xavier is a man of few words,” Donahue said. “It’s less about the spoken bond and that they both just totally trust each other. It’s the trust that ball in the air, Mick’s gonna get it.”

The chemistry and trust have paid off with record-breaking results and according to Donahue, there is still more to come.

“They’re gonna be the two all-time Inter-AC yard holder records,” Donahue said. “It’s something that seems more and more of a reality after each game the duo plays in.”

As the season continues, Stearn and Mckee’s connection stands as an example to their opponents of the hard work and trust they’ve implemented over the years. Their record-breaking performances not only highlight their individual talents but also reflect the effort of the entire GA football team. The duo has set a new standard, one that inspires Germantown Academy.
