GA/PC spirit week

GA/PC spirit week

Every year, the buzz around GA/PC Day transforms our school into a lively hub of creativity during Spirit Week.

Each day brings a different theme, turning the hallways into a parade of outfits that range from comfy pajamas to bold superhero ensembles.

This year’s lineup had its own flair, starting strong with the classic Pajama Day on Monday and cruising through Superhero Day, Wacky Wednesday, Barbenheimer Day and wrapping up with Class Color Day on Friday.

On Friday, the Senior Strut gave all of us a burst of energy as our senior class of 2024 sprinted through the halls, filling the school with infectious vibes and spirit.

The day concluded early with the entire school gathering in the big gym for the pep rally. The Lower School claimed the loudest cheer, seniors dazzled us with their moves during Senior Step, and the sports captains pumped us up for the GA/PC Day games.

Reflecting on Spirit Week, we reached out to students from different grades to hear their thoughts on the themes.

Helen Liang ‘25 said, “I think that Pajama Day is a classic and should be kept forever in the rest of history.”

We’re on board with this, and think it resonates with the majority of high school students. Liang did, however, raise a concern about Tuesday’s theme.

“I think that the superhero theme for GA PC day could be revised so that more of the GA community would feel inclined to participate because I think that theme should reflect the wants of the people,” said Liang.

Agreeing with Liang, we propose a tweak to the lineup. Next year, Wacky Wednesday and Bring Anything But a Backpack Day should be split up, keeping Wednesday as Wacky Wednesday and replacing Superhero Day with Bring Anything But a Backpack Day.

This way, the themes are distinct, and we bid farewell to the less popular superhero day.

“I like how Barbenheimer is relevant because it’s something that happened recently. Ask the students what they want, like do a poll or something.” Niyathi Jonalagadda ‘26 said.

We agree as well as everyone else. Barbie and Oppenheimer were the biggest movies of this year and caused a riot. The theme that day made people very enthusiastic.

Larry Zhan ‘25 said, “I think it’s just like a good way to add fun to the week. I think a lot of people get to bring in stuff that they normally wouldn’t wear and then get to just like everyone who fits in.”

We also agree that spirit week is a fun addition to the school year because  it brings students together and encourages them to try new things while also serving as a way for students to showcase their styles.

He also suggests that maybe we should push out a poll beforehand to get more of the student vote.

“Like maybe offering something like a survey or various themes that people can choose from,” said Zhan.

We interviewed Maddison Quinter ‘24 about her favorite and least favorite themes of the week.

“Least favorite. Probably superhero. Mostly because it’s hard to put that costume together unless you’ve done it for Halloween because then you have to order things.  I had a whole thing the night before trying to find my Halloween costume from like two years ago. And I didn’t have everything because I outgrew it. So that was like, that’s probably one thing people have been saying. It’s hard to find stuff, ” said Quinter.

On the other hand, we largely relate with her about pajama day.

“I love pajama day. I woke up, rolled out of bed, and I was already ready for school, and that was great. And I feel like I don’t know what it was. But the energy that day just felt a lot higher then because we were in pajamas,” said Quinter.
