After about a year-long wait, part two of the two-time Oscar-winning movie “Wicked: For Good” blasted into theaters on Nov. 21, 2025. The movie was adapted from the classic 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” and has become a fan favorite for all ages. Its enchanting visuals, catchy soundtracks, detailed sets, and brilliant cast left audiences across the world amazed when they got to experience it. But does part two of the “Wicked” franchise live up to the long-awaited hype, or did it lose some of the enchantment it had in the past?

Middle School and Upper School Choir Director, Mr. Jon Timmons, had a lot of positive comments about the newly released movie.

When asked about his expectations of the movie, “For me, it exceeded [expectations]” he said. “I thought it was beautifully done cinematically. And I thought that while it had a very different feeling and tone than the first one, it was still really, really good.”

“Wicked: For Good” has many interpretive themes that go beyond the fictional characters of the “Wicked” universe and dive deep into the real world.

Mr. Timmons believed that the overarching message of the movie was “…finding yourself, believing in yourself and following your intuition and your gut”, he said.

Upper School History Teacher, Ms. Lana Mora also gave her opinions on the second part of Wicked, and how it resonates with her.

“The story itself is relatable and sort of representing this dynamic of being an upstander and standing against injustice,” Ms. Mora said. “So in that sense, I think, even today, just like navigating sort of difficult political times, I think the film comes at a really great spot in sort of representing those dynamics.”

The movie and musical versions of “Wicked” have both been a smash, and though they are both based on the book “Wicked” by Gregory Maguire, the productions have many differences. When asked how the movies contrast with the hit Broadway show, “In comparison, I think theater people would kill me for saying this, but I think I enjoyed the movie a little bit more, just because it sort of brought to life a lot of the things that you can’t really do on a stage”, Ms. Mora said.

Ultimately, “Wicked: For Good” proves itself to be more than just a long-awaited sequel. The movie was said to bring forth meaningful perspectives and themes, as well as a heartfelt performance. Whether you are watching for the music, the message, or the magic, this finale left viewers walking out smiling with its everlasting impact.
