On Friday, February 21, the girls basketball team suffered a 63-42 loss in the PAISAA state semifinals at Friends Central to the Abington Friends School. Already shorthanded with the loss of senior Elle Stauffer due to a knee injury, the Patriots were even more undermanned Friday night with seniors Caitlyn Priore and Molly Oeth out with injuries, and junior Becca Booth out with illness. The team just couldn’t get it rolling Friday night, with Maddie Vizza committing two fouls within the first two minutes which definitely hurt the injury plagued Patriots team. Even though there were many tears shed after the game, there is absolutely nothing this team, and especially the seniors, should be disappointed about. The seven seniors, Jaye Haynes, Elle Stauffer, Maddie Vizza, Maddie Burns, Caitlyn Priore, Sarah Dilello, and Molly Oeth, combined to bring four Inter-ac championships and one PAISAA state championship home to Germantown Academy. Besides many championships, the class of 2020 produced two Inter-ac MVP’s (Elle Stauffer in 2018-19, and Jaye Haynes 2019-20), four All Inter-ac players (Jaye Haynes, Elle Stauffer, Maddie Vizza, Caitlyn Priore), multiple 1000 point scorers (Jaye Haynes and Maddie Vizza), and five players that will play at the collegiate level (Elle Stauffer (Harvard), Jaye Haynes (La Salle), Maddie Vizza (Northeastern), Caitlyn Priore (Gettysburg), Sarah Dilello (Ursinus). Though it was not the end result that they were looking for, the entire school is extremely proud of the success the team had this year, and we are excited to see what these seniors will do at the next level!
