Luke Weidemoyer '23

Luke Weidemoyer ‘23 joined The Edition at the beginning of his sophomore year and began writing his monthly column, The Greatest Albums of All Time, with an article on Radiohead’s Kid A. He continued this album throughout the year, writing articles on albums such as Mitski’s Be The Cowboy and Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, and took over the Album of the Month column at the end of the school year. Luke’s goal for the year is to focus on lyrical and musical analysis in the Album of the Month column. His favorite font is Garamond for its understated elegance.

Album of the Month: June 2022

Album of the Month: June 2022

June 2022, in terms of music, was a slight improvement over past months, offering a multitude of enjoyable, if largely insignificant, releases. Two of my favorite records from the past month include Post Malone’s hedonistic pop on Twelve-Carat Toothache and the anxious power pop of Weezer’s SZNZ: Summer EP. Ultimately, though, the release I found […]
Album of the Month: May 2022

Album of the Month: May 2022

May 2022 was another slow month for music, but three projects really grabbed my attention. The atmospheric A Light for Attracting Attention from Radiohead’s side-project The Smile delivers some of the best art rock of the year, while post-hardcore legends Gospel return with their first album in seventeen years with the manic The Loser. The […]
Album of the Month: April 2022

Album of the Month: April 2022

April wasn’t as prolific a month for music as the previous three, but it still offered a few projects that I believe are more than worth your time. Among this month’s best music are the eclectic psych-rock of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Omnium Gatherum and Father John Misty’s orchestral classic pop on Chloë […]
Album of the Month: March 2022

Album of the Month: March 2022

March 2022 did not bring nearly as many amazing projects as February, but there was still more than enough good music to go around. Some of the best music of the month includes Asian Glow & Weatherday’s collaborative noisy lo-fi rock EP Weatherglow and the playful dance-pop of Charli XCX’s CRASH. The best album of […]
Album of the Month: February 2022

Album of the Month: February 2022

February 2022 was an absurdly excellent month for music. Many artists, like Mitski and Animal Collective, released highly anticipated albums that did not disappoint. The month’s best music, like the pastoral indie folk of Big Thief’s Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You and Beach House’s lush dream pop on Once Twice Melody, will […]
Album of the Month: January 2022

Album of the Month: January 2022

The start of a new year generally brings a brief dry spell of engaging music, and January 2022 was no different. Many of the month’s new projects were disappointing, though some artists, like The Weeknd, undoubtedly delivered some of the best music of their careers; Earl Sweatshirt perfected his brand of introspective abstract hip-hop on […]
Album of the Month: December 2021

Album of the Month: December 2021

December 2021 was quite a slow month for music releases, though there were still a few projects that I found to be worthwhile. Some of the best albums released this month were the quirky indie rock of underscores’ boneyard aka fearmonger and Ethereal Shroud’s introspective atmospheric black metal on Trisagion; however, my favorite release was […]
Album of the Month: November 2021

Album of the Month: November 2021

As the year comes to a close, music releases have been slowing down, but November of 2021 still offered plenty of worthwhile projects to enjoy. Among the month’s most impressive projects were the sombre indie rock on Snail Mail’s Valentine and Sloppy Jane’s dark art pop on Madison. However, no music this month came close […]
Album of the Month: September 2021

Album of the Month: September 2021

September 2021 proved to be one of the best months for music this year; great projects were released every week, including some of the most interesting records of the year. Some of my favorite music from the month includes the ethereal indie folk of Sufjan Stevens and Angelo De Augustine’s A Beginner’s Mind and Injury […]
