Kiran Bagga ‘25 is the third and last of the three Bagga siblings to thrive on the GA golf team. She and her siblings are all accomplished athletes; however, the Bagga siblings have not only found great success in their GA golf careers but also a deep connection and closeness to one another.
Bagga’s proudest accomplishment throughout her golf career so far has been winning the club championship at her home course, Manufacturers’ Golf Club. But what made this achievement so special to her was not just the victory, but the fact that she accomplished it with her sister, Serena Bagga ‘23, who currently golfs at Hamilton College.
“What made it really special was that me and my sister were in the final pairings, versing each other,” Kiran Bagga said. “It was fun because we’ve been competitive our whole lives–it was a good moment.”
The game of golf has brought the Bagga family together, providing them with something in common to talk about and a shared passion.
“Something we used to do when we were younger was play something called ‘The Bagga Golf Championship’. It would be me and my dad versus my sister and brother,” Kiran Bagga. “It’s just been a really fun way to bond over something.”
“Golf allowed us to stay connected all throughout high school and will allow us to stay connected for the rest of our lives,” Ajeet Bagga ‘24, who now plays at NYU, said.
Throughout her time at GA, Kiran Bagga has had many impressive accomplishments. In 2021, as a freshman, she was a member of GA’s Inter-AC winning team, finishing 4th place at the Bert Linton Invitational and being named second team all Inter-AC.
In 2023, as a junior, Kiran Bagga was named Philadelphia Jr. Tour Player of the Year for girls ages 16 through 18 and was voted co-captain of the golf team. She has also represented GA at the Girls Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association State Championship from her sophomore year until now.
As Kiran Bagga prepares for what is to come in her final season at GA, her priority is to finish out her GA career strong. She also has hopes of a team victory in the GA/PC day match.
“I’m really hoping that the team is able to come together and win because that’s how we start off GA/PC day”,” Kiran Bagga said.
In addition to these goals, Ajeet Bagga advised that Kiran Bagga fully enjoy her last year as a member of the GA golf team and student body.
“Some advice I would give to Kiran for her final season at GA is to just enjoy it,” Ajeet Bagga said. “Enjoy the practices, enjoy the van rides to matches, but most importantly enjoy your senior year at GA, it is a great time!”
Though Kiran Bagga is the last of the Baggas to play golf at GA, the family’s legacy will not end when she graduates this spring. She hopes that she and her family can give back to the community in various ways and keep their legacy alive.
“I hope that people learn that golf is a game you carry throughout your whole life. There are so many lessons within the game of golf, it’s not just a sport for my family. It’s also taught me skills like hard work, perseverance, time management and things like that,” Kiran Bagga said. “I think just helping the community understand that, and giving back–for example, my parents helped start a middle school golf program– would be really meaningful and a great way to keep that legacy alive.”
