Each day, Mr. Dave Martin wakes up and comes to GA to teach physical education and coach golf. Similarly, Mrs. Laura Martin wakes up and comes to GA to work in the Admissions Office. Both Mr. and Mrs. Martin have shed some light on the experience working together at GA.
“It [is] really a very, very positive experience. We know lots of people either through admissions or through my teaching,” Mr. Martin said. “I have nothing but positive things to say about us both working here together.”
Mr. Martin, who has been working at GA since the early 1980s, is married to Mrs. Martin. Not only are they married, but they met at GA. At GA, students and faculty alike foster meaningful connections. Other faculty members, like Mr. and Mrs. Rominger, are also married.
“We first met at the holiday assembly here at GA,” Mrs. Martin said. “We met in the small gym [and] through GA, using his connections here, my family and my connections here too.”
Although Mr. and Mrs. Martin first saw each other at the holiday assembly, they did not get to know one another until the summer of 1986. Mr. Martin is an alum of GA, and Mrs. Martin’s parents both worked at GA. They saw each other at an alumni event in 1986, and soon after began to spend more time together.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin also met through both of their connections at GA. Mrs. Martin’s family was working at GA, and Mr. Martin had connections to GA through friends. Mrs. Martin also babysat for Mr. Martin’s friend’s kids.
After meeting, they went on their first date around late July or early August of 1986. They went to Valley Forge National Park and took a walk.
Although Mr. and Mrs. Martin do not work together during the day, they both enjoy seeing each other in passing. Whether it is seeing each other getting coffee or seeing each other in the hallway, they appreciate connecting during the day and having the opportunity to talk.
“It’s a bright spot in the day when we get to bump into each other,” Mrs. Martin said.
Jobs like these often form close bonds and connections between people. Although they are sometimes on different schedules with their different positions, they still make time to see each other. They continue to work here today, and while GA was the institution that brought them together, the entire school community is thankful for them and their continuous service.
