In light of all the new at GA, the tradition of Superfans stays strong. New Superfans, Isabella Casey ‘24 and Madison Destefano ‘24, are ready to lead GA’s school spirit.
“WE ARE GA!” scream Izzy Casey ‘24 and Madison Destefano ‘24. At every football game, the two can be found cheering on the football team and leading the student section. Casey and Destefano, known as Germantown Academy’s Superfans, encourage each and every person to participate in school spirit.
“We are going to try to get as many people as possible to show out to every game,” said Casey.
Last year’s Superfans, Gracen Brant ‘23 and Dean Shacklett ‘23, have left the job in great hands with Casey and Destefano. Both are ecstatic about leading the student section.
The Superfans have also made certain promises that they intend to keep. “This year, we are definitely going to get everyone their shirts,” Destefano said. After a failed order of Superfans 2023 shirts last year, Casey and Destefano are making it a point to follow through with the purchase this time around.
Superfan leaders also aspire to connect with students and parents during the school day for information about upcoming sports events.
“A lot of parents follow the [GA Superfans] Instagram, so we try to keep it updated with the times of games, and pictures, videos of the players,” Casey said.
After football games, the Superfans have been making it a point to show love to individual players. Casey and Destefano take videos of the players running out on the field and later into the student section after games, highlighting certain players every game.
In addition, the Superfans this year have been bringing attention to the managers of the sports teams. Samantha Rachuba ‘24, senior manager of the football team, has been posted on the Instagram story labeled: “best manager in the Interac.”
Finally, Casey and Destefano have encouraged teams to make an effort to support other Germantown Academy teams. This initiative is still in process, as there is a limited student section for almost every sport except football. Specifically for sports like water polo, volleyball, and some girls’s sports, the Superfans will continue to work on increasing participation and energy at these games.
“We want more people to come to every sport, not just football and basketball,” said Destefano.
This year’s Superfans want to see more people and more excitement at all games. To drive this, Casey and Destefano plan to have interesting themes, thrilling chants, and more extensive posts to attract more fans.
