A new group of GA student tech assistants will be available in the library to ease the pain of slow computer performance, printer problems, and other tech issues one may encounter.
This new team of tech assistants called the “Surface Pros” have made it easy for GA students to reach professional technological assistance from their peers. Stationed in the library, this team of nine tech wizards are available to help with any problem one may experience on any device. The group includes Asher Sasson ‘23, Ava Toren ‘23, Sarah Sandifer ‘23, Jacob Sasson ‘23, Jeff Chang ‘22, Kayleigh Howard ‘23, Eli Torrey ‘23, Ellee Segal ‘23, Candice Medina ‘22, and the faculty leader Steven Herman.
Asher Sasson ‘23 says, “You can come to us for issues with Microsoft Office, anything revolving around the Wi-Fi and printer, and especially Canvas, considering it is new to GA. The most common issue we deal with is bugs on Surface Pros and its hardware. We are really happy to assist with a wide range of tech issues you might have.”
Senior Candice Medina, another member of the group, said that “both students and teachers should come to us with any technical issues, and we will troubleshoot. Problems range from simple things like issues with the surface pro pen, to software issues on the device itself.” The “Surface Pros” are available during break and at least one period every day, and the full schedule is available to view at the bottom of the article.
“The team was created as a result of the want for student involvement in helping other classmates fix issues with their technology,” says Sasson. In addition, Medina said “Mr. Herman encouraged the formation of the group, because it is common for students to come across a lot of technical issues throughout the school day. It also might be less intimidating for some people to approach the group of upperclassmen rather than going to the tech office.”
Systems administrator and computer science teacher, Steve Herman, adds, “If someone is interested in joining the group of tech assistants, please reach out to me.” Mr. Herman would love to hear from students who are willing to be fully committed to the team.
After Sasson was asked how successful the team has been so far, he said, “I have not heard of a scenario where a problem was not able to be resolved when someone came to the desk with an issue.” Both Sasson and Medina agreed that the only problem the group is facing at the moment is, unfortunately, the number of students who are unaware of the team’s availability and readiness to help with their tech issues. They would also like to encourage all students to not be afraid to ask the “Surface Pros” for help. It is no secret that GA students come across a variety of tech issues on the devices they are on all day, so don’t hesitate to take the problem to the professionals, where they can and will help resolve all types of problems, big and small.
