Due to COVID-19, concerts this holiday season are being held virtually. Although we will be missing the experience of going to a live concert with a lot of people, virtual performances are a safe way to listen to your favorite artists. You can still support these artists by buying tickets to see them perform online. It is not going to feel the same as going to a concert in person, but it is still something to look forward to while staying at home for the holiday season.

Artists such as BTS and Dua Lipa have already done paid live stream concerts and many more are coming. One concert to look forward to is Justin Beiber’s live stream New Year’s Eve concert on December 31. Tickets are $25 if you want to see this performance. A very popular concert during the holiday season, Jingle Ball, was held on December 10, and aired on iHeartMedia CHR radio stations, iHeartRadio App, and the CW. Performing this year was Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, Lewis Capaldi, Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes, and more. It was very exciting to tune into Jingle Ball and watch this year while being stuck at home.

There are also many free and ticketed ballet performances of the “Nutcracker” this holiday season. Performances come from many including the Lafayette Ballet Theater, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, Butler Ballet, New York City Ballet, and more.

Mr. Masters, the Singing Patriots teacher, showed his classes a performance of the largest virtual choir, singing “Sing Gently.” It features 17,572 choristers from 129 different countries making up this virtual choir. These people wanted to sing in a choir but couldn’t due to COVID-19, so they found this virtual one. This massive choir was conducted by Grammy-winning composer, Eric Whitacre. He uploaded a video of him conducting the piece, and all of the choristers, on their own, recorded themselves singing to his instruction. He uploaded all of the videos, and a virtual choir emerged.

It’s amazing how people are still performing for all to enjoy in a time like this. It is just what people need during this holiday season. Maybe you will buy a ticket to a virtual concert, or maybe you will just want to tune in to a free performance or concert. Either way, these performances are a great thing to look forward to during this pandemic!
