What’s a better way to get into the winter spirit than listening to holiday music? Here’s a poll on the most popular holiday songs at GA by asking 29 students from all four grades for their favorite song. This list ranks the songs from most popular, #1, to least popular

1.) “All I Want for Christmas is You” – This classic song by Mariah Carey has won with four votes from Sangeetha Bhuyan ‘22, Malia Walton ‘23, Kate Stone ‘23, and Elaine Li ‘24.

 2.) “Last Christmas” – This song, sung by a variety of artists including Wham! and Taylor Swift, was voted 2nd place with three votes from Liz Burke ‘23, Lizzie DiSandro ‘23, and Noelle Paynton ‘23.

These next six songs tied for third with two votes each:

“Dominick the Donkey” – This song was recorded by Lou Monte in 1960 and will surely give you a laugh. This song received votes from Fiona McKenna ‘23 and Melinda Amorosi ‘23.

“Christmas Wrapping” – First performed by the band, The Waitresses, this song has also been covered by other artists including the Spice Girls. This song received votes from Sofia Eichsteadt ‘22 and Julia Fitzpatrick ‘23.

“It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” – Originally sung by Bing Crosby in 1951, this song is also covered by many artists such as Johnny Mathis and Michael Bublé. This song was voted for by Natalie Schildt ‘21 and Leeza Peters ‘21. 

“The Christmas Song” – This classic Christmas song, recorded by Nat King Cole in 1961 and covered by many after, received votes from Maria Petko ‘23 and Amelia Reaume ‘23.

“Mistletoe” – Sung by Justin Beiber, this song was voted for by Kylie Orenstein ‘23 and Shae Sawyer-St.Clair ‘24. 

“Jingle Bell Rock” – Originally sung by Bobby Helms and covered by many, this song was in the movie “Mean Girls” and was voted for by Gurbani Chawla ‘22 and Ally DellaFranzia ‘24.

The rest of the songs received one vote and tied for 4th place:

 “Auld Lang Syne” – This song, originally sung by Bing Crosby, was voted for by Logan Shallow ‘23.

 “Do They Know It’s Christmas” – Sung by Band Aid in 1984, this song was voted for by Joey Petko ‘21.

“Sleigh Ride” –  This song, sung by The Ronettes and covered by Johnny Mathis, was voted for by Joseph Richards ‘23.

“Winter Wonderland” – this common, classic Christmas song, sung by Amy Grant, was voted for by Kylie Orenstein ‘23.

“Happy Xmas (War is Over)” – released in 1971, by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, received a vote from Olivia Shafer ‘23.

 “Let it Snow” – This classic song sung by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, received one vote from Olivia Shafer ‘23.

“I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” – This hilarious song written by John Rox and performed by 10-year old Gayla Peevey in 1953, and was voted for by Fiona McKenna ‘23.

“Christmas Song” – Sung by Phoebe Bridgers, this song received one vote from Olivia Shafer ‘23. 

“Little Drummer Boy” – Written by Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941, first recorded by the Trappe Family Singers in 1951, then recorded by Harry Simeone Chorale in 1958, this song, voted for by Lily Houston ‘24. 

“Brothers” – This song from the movie “Emmet Otter Jug-band Christmas” recieived a vote from Emily Spillane ‘23.

“This Christmas” – This song, sung by Chris Brown, was voted for by Stella Lee ‘23.

“Carol of the Bells” – This popular Christmas song was composed by Mykola Leontovych and the lyrics were written by Peter J. Wilhousky. It is based on the Ukranian folk chant, “Shchedryk.” Covered by many artists, this song was voted for by Aisosa Idahosa ‘23. 

“Skating” – This instrumental song written by Vince Geraldi from the classic movie, “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” was voted for by Maddy Donches ‘23. 

“Baby It’s Cold Outside” – This song, voted for by Angelina Sannicandro ‘22, was written and first sung by Frank Loesser in 1944. It was in the movie “Neptune’s Daughter” in 1949, which is when it was first heard by the public. It is also heard in the movie “Elf” and is covered by many including Dean Martin.

You should listen to these songs voted by your classmates to really get in the Christmas feels!
