Are you looking for a holiday movie to watch to get in the holiday spirit? We’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of movies recommended by GA students:

Gurbani Chawla ‘22 is a big fan of holiday movies and recommends Elf  because “it’s a comedic classic combined with Buddy’s genuine character, and I love Will Ferrell.” The movie follows Buddy (Will Ferrell) after he is accidentally dropped off at the North Pole as a child growing up with Santa and his elf workers. When he realizes he is different from the others, he returns to the normal world and finds himself in the Big Apple, in search of his actual father.

Paige Begley ‘22 loves to get into the holiday spirit, especially when it comes to movies. She recommends The Santa Clause movies because “they are the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.” The Santa Clause movies give you an inside look at the North Pole through the eyes of a Dad who unwillingly becomes Santa.

Maggie Morrissey ‘24 loves all holiday movies, especially the Home Alone series. She recommends them because “she likes the mix between holiday spirit and thriller.” Sophie Goodridge ‘24 also recommends Home Alone because she thinks it’s “very comical.” Home Alone is about a kid who is left home alone when his family goes away for Christmas. Eventually, robbers break into his house and he must defend it.

Daelyn Nwaobasi ’21 recommends The Polar Express to put you in the holiday spirit. He explains, “there are many layers to the film — comedy scenes, scary scenes, and insightful scenes. You name it, it has it. I would 10/10 definitely recommend it!” The Polar Express is about “Hero Boy’s” train ride on a journey to the North Pole. In the beginning of the film, he doubts the existence of Santa, however, by the end he is unable to ignore the reality of the North Pole.

Drew Schwartz ‘23 loves watching holiday movies because he finds it to be an enjoyable experience with his family. He recommends The Grinch because “it puts me in the holiday spirit, and I have always loved Dr. Seuss.” The Grinch is about a creature named the Grinch and his dog, Max, who are living in a cave on Mount Crumpet. When his neighbors decide to throw a party during Christmas with loud lights and music, the Grinch struggles to find some peace and quiet, but does so by dressing up as Santa Claus.

Chaz Murgia ‘23 adores watching holiday movies, especially on Christmas Day. His favorite movie is Noelle because his “favorite actress is Anna Kendrick.” Noelle is about Kris Kringle’s daughter (Anna Kendrick) who wants to take over the North Pole and the family business when her father retires.

Dean Millard ‘21 enjoys watching holiday movies because they lighten his spirit. He recommends watching Almost Christmas because “it rejuvenates my soul and allows me to resonate with the comical aspects of the film.” Almost Christmas is about a family who loses a loved one and endures many challenges to continue the holiday traditions due to family feuds.
