As female icon Oprah Winfrey once said, “It is confidence in our body, minds, and spirits that allows us to keep looking for new adventures.”

It all starts with the person in the mirror. Before anything else, if you have a goal, you must learn to love the person you see in the mirror. I get it, it’s difficult when it’s early in the morning and you’re rushing out of the house just to make it on time to work or school. In these moments, the mirror is probably your worst enemy. You see the pimple on your nose, or that misplaced hair, and you just get frustrated with yourself. While the mirror reflects our physical assets, it also reflects how we see ourselves as people. Do you find yourself lazy? Insecure? Empty? If looking in the mirror makes you feel uncomfortable, it’s a sign that it is time to dig deep and find a sense of self love.

Unsurprisingly, arriving at a place of self confidence is quite challenging; it takes preparation and hard work. One of the most important things to remember is that self confidence is like a muscle: when it is exercised it’s strong, but when it is not, it’s weak. If you’re ever feeling insecure about yourself, a great exercise is to write down ten things that you appreciate about yourself. This exercise helps you focus on a positive view of yourself, rather than dwelling on the negative. Another great thing to do is meditation. There are lots of great videos on youtube! The Calm App is also a great way to start implementing meditation into your routine. Lastly, self care is extremely important in coming to a place of confidence. Make sure that throughout the process, you are remembering to take care of yourself. Maintaining a healthy sleep schedule and diet are crucial to feeling good about yourself. In whichever route you choose to become more confident in yourself, remember to stay persistent!

If you have a dream or a goal, failures and setbacks are simply inevitable. However, it is the sense of confidence you have that acts as a safety net, helping you get back up and stay on track to achieving your dreams. This is why it is so vital to be confident; without this foundation, no progress will be made in your journey. Undoubtedly, practicing self confidence is the first step in achieving your goals; soon, dormant opportunities will awaken and new adventures will come to fruition. Just remember, confidence is key.
