Germantown Academy’s swimming and diving season has officially come to a close. The Patriots competed at numerous dual meets, resulting in a winning record at the Easterns Championships in Lancaster, PA.

The girls swim team ended the season with an overall record of 5-3. The Patriots represented GA very well at the Easterns Championships, taking sixth overall. Emma Atkinson led the way, achieving nationally-ranked times in the 100m backstroke – finishing in 53.05 seconds – and in the 200m freestyle  – finishing in 1:45.77 – and earning the F&M pool and meet record for the latter category. Other finishers included a second-place finish of the 200m medley relay, a third-place finish of the 400m freestyle relay and a fifth place in the 100m breast by Elise Smigiel ‘21, and a sixth place in the 100m fly by Nicole Ranile ‘22. Divers Lindsey Landmesser ‘22 and Molly Thompson ‘22 also helped score points for the team.

The boys swim team also finished the season strong, with a final record of 5-2. Like the girl’s team, the boys placed sixth overall at Easterns. GA dominated the 500m freestyle with Henry Morrissey earning first place with a time of 4:24.12, Griffin Henze ‘21 arriving in seventh, and Zach Spain ‘20 finishing in eighth place. On the sprint side, Walker Butler ‘20 and Jay Freeman ‘23 were strong competitors. The Patriots also performed well in the relays, finishing both the 200m and the 400m freestyle relay in sixth place. Additionally, Asher Sasson ‘23 aided the team with diving, scoring crucial points for the Patriots.

As a whole, GA placed fourth overall. To add on to the many accomplishments of that weekend, Emma Atkinson and Henry Morrissey both added new Olympic Trial cuts to that list. Atkinson gained her fifth trial cut in the 400m freestyle and Morrissey gained his first trial cut in the 1500m freestyle. Without a doubt, the Patriots started and ended the season strong.
